It had been far too long since I had taken any pictures. I've had a lot going on lately, but was ready to get back behind the camera! Thankfully, Taryn is always willing to model for me (& wanted some pictures with her shorter haircut!), so we did a quick photo shoot.
I also made Taryn snap a few photos of me. It was way too hot to be wearing velvet, but Taryn had done my hair & makeup & I really liked how it looked that day!
I absolutely love taking pictures of my sisters. They are my best friends, & I have things in common with each of them, but we are also all very different.
I think (& hope!) in taking photos of any client, I am able to capture a little bit of who they are, while adding a bit of my own style to the image. With my sisters, that bond is already there, & it's easier to translate into a photo. It's fun to play around & explore, & to show off their differences!
It has been a crazy, busy few months for me, & I have barely picked up my camera. I had been wanting to do a shoot just for fun, so I asked Taryn about doing some photos. She suggested head shots, since she has been doing so much theater stuff lately. We decided to go explore downtown. I had a few goals with this shoot:
1. To play with color & tones.
2. To find some new locations downtown to shoot instead of the same old places I always go.
3. To have some fun & get some good photos that Taryn can actually use.
I feel like I accomplished all three! There are a million photos because I could hardly narrow it down (& I actually narrowed it down a lot!), but we were both so excited with how they were turning out. There were a lot of cute, colorful spots downtown that I had seen before, but had never attempted to shoot because they were in weird areas. So we played around with angles & got some great shots! We also walked down a couple of roads we hadn't explored much & found some new places.
This door was so cute - Taryn offered to snap a few photo of me as well! I couldn't say no!
To show off a bit of how creative we got with angles, & just to show that you can make ordinary places into something beautiful & interesting, here were some of the actual spots where we took photos!
I really loved working with Angela & Garrett. They were so obviously happy together, & there were so many laughs, kisses, & jokes. They love the outdoors, & weren't afraid to hike through tall grass, water, & inches of mud to get a good photo. I wish them all the best for their wedding this summer!
I can't resist posting a few of these goofy photos as well! They were just so much fun, & I think it shows off how these two are as a couple. Congrats, Angela & Garrett!
I've finally finished editing Act Two! There are a million pictures here, & a few of them aren't great quality, but were too fun not to share.
Before I start gushing again... Here's a photo of Taryn & I last Saturday after the performance. It's kind of amazing how pretty she is, even when she's green! I'm so proud of all she's accomplished this year.
Speaking of green, here's a little DIY I wanted to share. I knew I wanted to give Taryn green flowers after her show, but wasn't sure how to go about it. I thought about attempting to dye some, or paint some, but then I realized... It's close to St. Patrick's Day, so surely there must be some tacky green faux flowers out there. & sure enough, I found the perfect ones: Green carnations, rimmed in gold glitter. I had to remove some leprechaun gold (not kidding), & added a few green cattails, then tied ribbons onto the bottom. I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out! It was a fun little project.
& another cute little DIY... The cast members were selling these adorable Shrek headbands at the show. They had Shrek, Fiona, & Donkey ears, so of course, I bought some Fiona ones. & of course, I took a selfie to show them off.
Now for the pictures. Again, these are very Fiona-heavy. & by heavy I don't mean chubby. Obviously she's not fat. But her personality is biggish ;) (That's a lame Shrek joke, for those who haven't seen it!) Anyway, there are way more photos of Taryn than anyone else, but I did try to get photos of everyone!
This was such a fun show, & I'm kind of sad that it's over, even though I wasn't actually a part of it. Taryn has had such a great time being Fiona, & I have loved seeing her enjoy it so much. The entire cast seems to have had so much fun with this show, & I've loved watching it. There are so many talented people in this group, & I'm excited to see some of their future productions & endeavors!
If you were a part of the show & would like digital copies of any of the photos, I would be happy to get them to you. Just message or comment, & we'll work it out!
I know I gush about my little sister, Taryn, all the time. Most of you have probably seen me mention a million times on various forms of social media that she starred as Fiona in Shrek the Musical this weekend at NOC Tonkawa. She is so incredibly talented, & I absolutely love watching her perform. She just looks so natural & comfortable on stage, & I can tell she is so passionate about what she's doing. This was especially fun for me because I got to see her tap dance for the first time, & see her acting in a bigger role than ever before.
This was also a fun show because the cast & crew of Shrek are all so talented. I can't wait to see what else Taryn gets to participate in during her college career & beyond.
Before seeing the show, I was able to go to Shrek's final dress rehearsal, where I got to take pictures without annoying (too many) people. I really enjoyed seeing some of the rehearsal process, & also loved seeing the full show this weekend! I tried to get photos of everyone, but there are a lot more of Taryn (sorry - I'm biased). This is also just Act One - I'll post Act Two later! If you were in the show & would like copies of any photos, please let me know & I can get them to you!
Britny & I met when we were in 10th grade. Our moms had become good friends through work, & when they found out their daughters were the same age, they were determined for us to meet & become friends, too. Which meant that Britny & I were (separately) determined never to come in contact with each other. Because at that age, no one wants their mom to find them friends, right?
So one night, we ended up meeting through mutual friends at a football game. We each realized who the other was & laughed about it. We hit it off, & became pretty much inseparable throughout the next few years.
Good job, mom.
Now Britny is the mom of the cutest little boy, Gunner. The three of us went out to 4D Farms (owned by some friends from church) to do a family session, & Gunner had a blast. He loved the cows, especially - I've never seen anyone get so excited about cows! The Downs family was so gracious & brought out the animals so we could pet, feed, & play with them. We also caught a gorgeous sunset. It was a great experience! Thanks again to the Downs family for being great hosts.
Ali recently asked me to take senior photos for her & her cousin, Israel. I was a bit nervous, because Israel was my first guy to work with, but he had plenty of ideas for outfits & poses! Ali was a natural too, with the perfect outfit choices & great posing. Taryn did her makeup, & Ali's hair is amazing! We visited Cann Gardens for the first few photos, then explored the downtown area to get some more shots. I'm excited about how these turned out!
