As I mentioned in my last blog, Alex & Halli (my brother-in-law & his girlfriend, or fiancee now!) are recently engaged!
I probably drove Alex crazy over the next few weeks, making sure he had everything planned (He did. He's so great!).
When the big day arrived, here's what happened...
Laker & I drove to Shawnee & went to Alex's house. Halli was told that Alex was working all day, & that he'd pick her up later to celebrate their three-year anniversary. Our friend Marisah cleverly took her out to get her nails done while she was waiting. In the meantime, Alex (not at work), Laker, & I went by their church. We set up Christmas lights down the aisle, put candles on stage, tested the lighting, & cleared off the rest of the stage. Then we went back to his house, changed, & grabbed tacos (where we ran into Marty, world's coolest human!), & split up.
Laker & I went back to the church. There, Alex had a big group of friends gathered with supplies for a surprise party. They all went into the nursery rooms to wait. I had a different job, so I went into the sanctuary. Meanwhile, Alex went to pick up Halli. She thought they were going out to dinner in the city. When Alex got there, their friend Bryce called & said there was some emergency at the church that Alex needed to go check out. They swung by the church, & went into the sanctuary.
When Halli saw the Christmas lights, she realized something was going on. I was hiding in the sound booth & turned on "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran, one of their favorite songs. Alex pulled Halli on stage on proposed. I took photos, (& also filmed it on my phone, although I accidentally knocked my phone over just as he was getting down on one knee! I quickly fixed it though) & I am so honored that I was able to be there!
Afterwards, Alex asked Halli if she was ready to go on their date. We walked out into the lobby of the church, where everyone had left their nursery room hiding spots & yelled, "Congratulations!" They had set up tables with snacks & drinks, put up a banner with the new fiance(e)s' names, & had a great little surprise party going. Halli had no idea it was coming!
Here are some photos of all of the evening's festivities.
