& that's important.
According to ASPCA, about 2.7 million shelter animals are adopted each year, which is awesome. Unfortunately, the same number of shelter animals - 2.7 MILLION - are euthanized each year. That's heartbreaking to me. Especially when I think about people paying hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars for dogs from breeders.
Our dogs are some of my favorite creatures on the planet. I am not ashamed to be a dog lady, & I will not pretend to be ashamed of the cute holiday collar decorations in the pictures below (no matter how many comments my mom makes about them!). These dogs are so sweet & funny, & when I think about the fact that there over a million dogs just like this (& over a million cats) who will be euthanized this year, it makes me so sad. If we had room for more, I would take them.
If you're looking into finding a pet, please consider getting a shelter animal. Most come with all of their basic shots, & are already spayed/neutered. We got Lily at a PetSmart adoption day her shelter, Safe Haven, was hosting, & we also got over $150 of free pet supplies with the adoption process.

Here is a link to the shelter Lily is from in OKC, which I highly recommend.
