Entering the park, we walked straight by the Mayor of Main Street USA, so of course I stopped for a photo! He was the sweetest, cutest, older gentleman, & he looked so precious in his Christmas outfit. We also passed by the Dapper Dans in their Christmas outfits, but since I was Disneybounding as a Dan that day, I knew we'd have to come back to see a full performance later.
I also stopped at the celebration button cart to grab a birthday button, since my birthday was earlier in the week. A sweet cast member from Japan got the button for me. The rest of the day, cast members told me "happy birthday," & a few even did special little extra things for us to make the day memorable.
Next, we rode Dumbo the Flying Elephant, which was another new one for me. Again, I loved getting to ride such a classic ride! Laker is such a good sport, & I'm thankful that 1) He doesn't enjoy riding all the thrill rides I can't go on, & 2) He doesn't complain when I make him go on kiddie rides.
At this point, we stopped in at Gaston's Tavern for a LeFou's Brew. We had heard that they were somewhat similar to the Butterbeer at Universal's Harry Potter parks, but fruity. A glance at the menu said it was a frozen apple drink with marshmallow & something else. When Laker took a sip, he calmly said, "Oh, that's not whipped cream on top." I took it, thinking it was the marshmallow, & took a big gulp. It was so sour & tangy, & definitely not marshmallow. I made a horrible face & yelled, "oh my gosh!" which attracted some odd looks from those around us. Turns out it was a mango topping. It didn't taste bad - But it was very tart when you're expecting marshmallow!
I spotted two of Cinderella's mice, Suzy & Perla, & dashed over to their meet & greet line, since they don't usually meet. I asked the guy in front of me if the line had been cut off yet, & he said no. A family got in line behind me, & right as they did, the cast member said the line was being cut off. The guy in front of me started laughing about how I had barely made it! I love meeting characters that aren't usually out, & Suzy & Perla were so cute.
Next, we went to Pete's Silly Sideshow, where the classic characters are dressed in circus attire. We went through Goofy & Donald's side, because I had never met Donald before. Goofy is dressed as The Great Goofini, & Donald is The Astounding Donaldo. Both were fun, & we especially enjoyed seeing them interact with the kids in line!
I signed the Blue Fairy's Wish Book at Pinocchio Village Haus, & was the first person of the day to do so!
We went back to Pinocchio Village Haus for lunch. I got chicken parm with caesar salad, & Laker got a pizza flatbread. The restaurant also gave us free Christmas sugar cookies! It was a sweet little surprise.
I spotted the Fairy Godmother & jumped in her meet & greet line. As soon as I got in line, the cast member announced I was the last person before cut-off (then he nodded at me & said, "happy birthday!"). When we got towards the front, the Fairy Godmother was speaking with a family whose little girls had gone to meet her, & they had a cute old man in a wheelchair with them. She went up to speak with him & held his hand & hugged him, & I nearly cried. He looked so happy, & I loved seeing him get special attention. *Cheesy* but she truly made some magic happen for that family.
When it was my turn, I walked toward the bush she was standing by, & A BIRD DIVE-BOMBED ME. It was literally maybe an inch or two from my face. I felt the wind from it's wings, & I swear it was aiming for me - I think maybe it had a nest in the bush or something that it was trying to protect. The Fairy Godmother was super concerned that I was hurt, & we spent a minute or two recovering from the shock of the near-attack. Meanwhile, Laker had been messing with my camera & missed the entire thing! haha But once we regained composure, the Fairy Godmother was so sweet, & was one of my favorite meets to date. She talked with me like we were old friends, & I wanted her to be my grandma... Or my Fairy Godmother. Also, she sounded like Miss Patty from Gilmore Girls, which added a little something special, I think.
We rode the Mad Tea Party ride next, which is a favorite of mine. I have heard that the purple teacups are the fastest, & I have no idea if that's true, but we got a purple one anyway, & had a great time.
Next, we went to meet Peter Pan. He was a lot of fun, & had lots of energy. We were there right when his meet & greet opened, so we didn't have much of a wait, either.
Our next FastPass was at Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, which is one of our favorite rides (I feel like I'm saying that about everything... Disney is my favorite). Last time, I completely dominated Taryn's score. This time, Laker beat me, but I still got a better title than him (Galactic Hero forever!). I'm convinced they find the least flattering moment to take a photo, though. I'll post my photo with Taryn from Summer 2014 next to my photo with Laker from this trip for comparison.
We walked by the IncrediblesSuperDanceParty (Which definitely looks like "Incredibless," so someone should rethink that name). I had never seen the Incredibles out before, & they are kinda creepy.
When we got back to the Main Street area, Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire was just beginning. We walked towards the stage & ended up a few rows from the front. I enjoyed seeing Tiana in her flapper-style dress, & loved seeing Naveen! But after the first two scenes, we realized it was basically just re-enacting songs from the movies, so I asked Laker if he wanted to try to beat the crowds & find something else to do. We turned around, & there must have been thousands of people behind us. We didn't realize how much of a crowd had gathered for the show! We pushed our way back through the masses, then headed towards Main Street.
Once the rude ladies left, the cast member cheered up & the rest of us in line did our best to help him know that we realized they were rude ladies & he was a great ice cream salesman. I got the cutest Mickey ice cream cone in existence, & we ate outside, people-watching.
I mailed some postcards off to my long-distance friends in Germany, & am excited to see what they look like, postmarked from Main Street USA!
Also, while exiting, I saw something I had read about & hoped to come across for quite some time. Some of the members of the cleaning crews at Disney do street cleaning art, where they paint Disney characters on the streets with water as they clean. When we exited the ice cream shop, one of the cleaning crew members had just finished up a Mickey! We didn't get to see the process, but it was still neat to see the finished product!
I had told Laker about Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom, a free interactive card game that takes you around the different areas of the Magic Kingdom, defeating villains. Laker decided he wanted to give it a try, so we visited the Main Street Fire Station to get started. A Spanish-speaking family was in front of us, & one of the cast members described the rules to them in Spanish, which was neat to watch. Then it was our turn. We each got a deck of cards, & our park tickets unlocked the gates to each section. We also got a map, which led us to the different areas of play. Plus, we got an extra Christmas playing card as a bonus!
The Dapper Dans had just started performing at the exit of the Fire Station as we were leaving, so we got to see their entire performance. They sang Christmas carols, & had a fun jingle bell instrument to perform with. There were also a lot of terrible puns, which is one of my favorite things. They even tap danced a bit! I asked for a photo afterwards, since I was Disneybounding as a Dapper Dan that day (although my outfit didn't match their cute Christmas outfits - oh well. I'll post a photo of their normal outfits to show what the Disneybound was supposed to look like!). While we were posing, they surprised me with a (slightly embarrassing) birthday song. Despite my face being red for ages afterwards, I really enjoyed seeing them perform!
During the parade, we got tons of special attention from the characters & performers, which made it extra special. Dopey came right up to us, one of the tin soldiers came up & started drumming right in my face, & I'm pretty sure Prince Charming even said, "Happy birthday, princess," from inside the carriage (although I'm not a professional lip reader). We got lots of waves & smiles, too, which made for great pictures!
We went to the castle for a photo op (Pro tip: If you don't do your traditional castle photo first thing in the morning while everyone else is doing it, you can beat the crowds to the rides, & get the same exact photo later). Our PhotoPass photographer was kind of cranky. I asked him to take a photo with my Polaroid, & people walked in front of the photos TWICE. Then, I got annoyed with our photographer, because during our digital photo, I heard a bunch of people cheering. I looked to see what was going on, & the photographer said, "Oh, he just proposed." Sure enough, a guy had just proposed to his girlfriend in front of the castle, right by us, & we missed the whole thing. If you look at our photos, you can see everyone behind us staring in that direction. What kind of person doesn't tell someone there's a proposal happening nearby so they can watch?!
We went to Liberty Square & explored a bit, making a stop at a Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom area. A gray squirrel followed us around while we explored (If that's not like a scene from a Disney movie, I don't know what is). Then we stopped for waffles at Sleepy Hollow, one of the restaurants where Mackenzie worked during her Disney College Program. I got a fruit & Nutella waffle that was truly amazing, & Laker got a sweet & spicy chicken waffle (he liked his too!). We had a gorgeous view of the castle, which made our meal even more enjoyable.
Next, we went through Frontierland & Adventureland. These were two areas we hadn't explored as much as the rest of Magic Kingdom, so we wanted to try a few attractions we hadn't been on before. My family joked about the Country Bears a lot one evening ages ago, & it's a classic, so we decided to give it a try (& also, we wanted to sit for a while). It was actually pretty fun, mostly because the crowd was SO into it!
We went to the Enchanted Tiki Room, & it was easily one of my least favorite attractions I've ever done at Disney. Another person who was in there with us echoed my sentiments, saying, "Well, we'll never do that again."
The bathrooms at Rapunzel's tower are the cutest bathrooms ever. The tower is decorated with Rapunzel's paintings, & the doors look like the shutters to her castle windows. Plus, the paper lanterns are hanging outside!
Ariel had a short meet time, so I decided to go meet her again since we had a little extra time before the fireworks. We were told, "Say seaweed!" & the girl holding my camera took the picture right in the middle of "seaweed," so it's not the most flattering photo.
Overall, it was a fantastic day - One of the best we've ever had in the parks. We enjoyed ourselves, & our first day in the parks, just the two of us!
