- We visited Mackenzie in Orlando over Spring Break. There will be several posts over that later.
- Kiefer moved to Germany. He left early Friday morning & plans to be there for a year.
- Today marked one year that we've been going to Newpoint. It's been such a great church for us!
- My parents sold their house & are moving into a smaller house this week, since they don't need so much space anymore.
Since I haven't written in a while, here's a quick update:
I recently developed a disposable camera that I've had for almost a year. It was so much fun to get the pictures back, because I had very little memory of what was actually on the camera! I had also played around with double exposures, so some of the photos turned out pretty weird & some were really neat. I love playing with disposable cameras because they're so cheap, & they're fun to experiment with. Here are some of my favorites from this roll.
Another fantastic part of Fall Break was exploring the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge near Lawton. We started out by driving to the top of Mount Scott. We had a gorgeous view - The nice thing about Oklahoma being so flat is that when you do reach a higher elevation, you can see for miles.
We also visited the Holy City, which is a little area made to look like a town in Israel during Bible times. There are three crosses set up on a hill, stone buildings, & a statue of Jesus. The statue was particularly moving because it included a stone from the Mount of Olives. It made the crucifixion feel more real & less like something we read in a history book.
We also got to hang out with Julia & Anthony. Anthony came into our lives back when Laker was in Eloi Eloi, since they were both part of the music scene. He is now engaged to Julia, & we have been friends on social media for a while now. It was great to finally meet her! Plus, they have the sweetest dogs.
I'm already missing Fall Break! I can't wait to get back out to Duncan & explore.
I've said it before, & I'll probably say it a million more times, but I absolutely love visiting my in-laws. Wandering around on their land is one of my favorite things, & it's awesome to see how things change with the seasons. Plus, sunsets are absolutely amazing there. It's such a great reminder of God's glory.
Staying in Duncan is a great opportunity to recharge. Laker & I get to relax, spend time together, & hang out with family. Lily loves it too because she gets to run around & explore with no fences. Plus, the tall grass is the most fun thing ever.
This past trip was especially great because the weather was absolutely perfect. It's finally starting to feel like fall! We even made a fire pit one night & had s'mores. It doesn't get much better than that.
One of my best friends, Kevin, is a very talented photographer. He recently left to spend a year in South Asia, but before he left, he came to Ponca to visit & do a photo shoot. These were taken at the spillway in Ponca City.
You can see more of Kevin's work at www.kevinc-photography.com.
It's been over two months since I last posted. Things have been so busy & hectic. We're all settled into our new house in my hometown. I started a new job at the utilities billing office at City Hall, which has been a big blessing. I was in my friend Britni's wedding. Lily is huge now - about 20 pounds (& they told us she'd only reach 35 - yeah right). I started volunteering with my old youth group again, & will be starting a Bible study for the high school girls soon. & we went on vacation in Florida with my family.
We also spent 4th of July with my in-laws in Duncan, OK. My mother-in-law & father-in-law share a half plot of land with my aunt- & uncle-in-law, so it's always fun going out there. We had homemade ice cream, shot off fireworks, & spent lots of time outside. Here are some photos from our weekend!
Last month, Laker & I went to the Medieval Fair in Norman with Alex & Halli, my brother-in-law & his sweet girlfriend. We had the best time, despite the drizzle & rain off & on all day! We all went to the axe-throwing booth. Laker beat me, but I beat him at knife-throwing last year, so I feel like we're even. The three of them also tried their hand at mug-sliding. Halli was the only one who was any good... She won a pirate hat! I can't wait to go back next year!
We spent Mother's Day weekend in my husband's hometown of Duncan, OK. I always love visiting for the weekends. My mother-in-law & father-in-law share a half-plot of land with my aunt-&-uncle-in-law, & in the summer, it's absolutely beautiful. There are lots of wildflowers, places to explore, & a pond in between their houses to go fishing.
Since our recent move to Ponca, we now have a 3 hour drive to Duncan instead of our usual 1 & 1/2 hour drive. Lily had never been in the car that long before, but she did great! She devoured her favorite bone for the first half of the trip, then we stopped for a bathroom break, & she slept the rest of the way. We drove down Friday evening, & the sunset was gorgeous! It reminded me of the Lion King - such vibrant colors.
On Saturday, Laker & I took Lily exploring around the land. She loved it! No fences, plus she got to pick on my in-laws' dog, Gertie - & she had never seen some of the stuff she got to play with, like the pond, wildflowers, the tractor, & SO MANY STICKS. It's adorable watching her follow Laker around. For those of you who aren't familiar with Oklahoma, those pretty red flowers are Indian paintbrushes, our state wildflower. Also, that bubbly thing is a spittle bug. I had never heard of such a thing until this weekend, but Laker explained that there is a bug inside it that makes a little bubble nest. Crazy.
On Sunday, we went to church, & then more of the extended in-laws came over for lunch to celebrate Mother's Day. We had cooler tea, a new delicacy for me. I love all of my in-laws' family get-togethers. They are such genuinely kind people, & it's obvious how much they truly care about each other. I'm so thankful to have married into such a wonderful family! Also, my mother-in-law, Halli (my brother-in-law, Alex's, precious girlfriend), & I all wore our Jamberry nails this weekend! They all looked so cute. Some of the guys went fishing in the pond, we went to go see more wildflowers with Halli, & then Alex, Halli, Laker, Andrew (their cousin), & I went to Summer Sno, Duncan's local snow cone shack, for the best snow cones I've ever had. It was a great weekend!
We announced this on various other forms of social media, but we are planning to move to Ponca City at the end of next month. This is partially to save money for other things, & partially to be closer to my family. We are sad to be leaving OKC, but also excited for a fresh start. One thing we're really looking forward to: We will be getting out of apartment life & into a house, & our landlord is wonderful. Plus, she's letting us get a dog!
We'll post more updates about the move & other changes as they come.
We've spent the past two weekends in Ponca City at my parents' house. These photos are from a couple of weekends ago. We spent our time hanging out with my family, eating great food, & being surrounded by kids! I played a LOT of Disney Princess & Disney Jr. board games with my littlest sisters, Keiara & Miya, & somehow managed to lose every single one.
Taryn did my makeup, & my mom made chicken pot pie (my favorite!). Then we headed over to my grandpa's for dinner. Most of my family was there, so it was nice to see everyone.
Laker also got his first experience with Dixie Dog that weekend! Dixie Dog is a drive-in diner in Ponca, & it's the best. We got fried mac & cheese bites, fried okra, chocolate shakes, plus our meals. Then we left to go back to OKC & saw the sunset through the clouds, which was gorgeous!
This past weekend, I didn't take many photos, but I did get one of Taryn in front of our parents' house for a photo project. I'll post the finished project when it's done if it turns out well!
You guys. I finally did it. I pet a tiger.
Ever since I was a toddler, I was obsessed with Aladdin. Jasmine is my second favorite Disney princess, & the fact that she had a pet tiger amazed me. It became my dream to own one, & petting one made the top of my bucket list.
Last week, Laker & I went to the G.W. Interactive Zoo in Wynnewood with my brother-in-law, Alex, and his girlfriend, Halli. We had the best time!
We got to tour the zoo, periodically stopping to interact with some of the animals. We got to hang out with a mini donkey (Fun fact: They told us that mini donkeys & horses kill something like 120 people per year. Not sure how that works...)
Then we fed the camel! Halli & I were brave & kissed him (You put the food between your lips & he grabs it).
I held a baby alligator!
Then we got to pet some wolf/dog hybrids. That was an amazing experience. They're actually illegal in most states, including Oklahoma (They're in Wynnewood on court order), because they're considered dangerous, but they were so friendly!
At the end, they brought out a bunch of animals for us to interact with. Laker, Alex, & I held some snakes. Halli was not into it.
We also got to hold a baby wolf pup & an albino skunk! We were able to pet a baby bear too, but a trainer had to hold him.
Then came the best part - The tiger! White tigers are my favorite, so I was extra thrilled.
The tour was really interesting. They had tons of animals - LIGERS!, kangaroos, exotic birds, monkeys, all kinds of things. All of the animals were rescued, & the tour talked about preserving habitats & how they cared for the animals & bred some of them to help the endangered species. We are all impressed by how huge the ligers were! We had a great time, & can't wait to go back someday!
