Sydney & Laker.
How long have you been dating/married/engaged?
We started dating in November of 2010, on the 18th (we think). We were engaged on Valentine's Day of 2012 (a little over 3 years ago!), & married June 3, 2012.
Who chose the ring(s)? Why?
We both chose it, in a way. Laker wanted a black tungsten wedding band, & I wanted our rings to match. I love black diamonds, so it seemed like a good fit. Laker knew I wanted something unique, so he asked me to choose a few rings & he picked out of those. Obviously I knew the proposal was coming; I just didn't know when.
As for the tattoos, I don't remember who decided. We had always talked about getting tattoos instead of a wedding band, & since the engagement ring had an odd band, we didn't think we'd find a wedding band that matched anyway. We got them on our honeymoon - His is in my handwriting, & mine is in his handwriting.
Describe the ring.
It's white gold, with a circle-cut black diamond in the middle, surrounded by a double band of white diamonds.
What is his ring like?
He has a black tungsten version of the One Ring from Lord of the Rings, & a matching tattoo of my name in my handwriting.
Briefly tell how you two met.
What we mostly remember is meeting through mutual friends in the summer of 2010, but we realized about a year after we started dating that we actually met at a show some of our friends were playing at earlier that year. Neither of us made the connection for a while.
Briefly tell the proposal story.
As I said, I knew the proposal was coming, I just didn't know where or when. Laker had told me that we should go ahead & take engagement photos for our Save the Dates, since we wanted a June wedding. My friend Brandon took the photos, & we were walking around downtown OKC. I was begging to go home because it was cold, but Laker insisted on one more location. We stood by the waterfall in Myriad Gardens with Brandon snapping photos. Laker started saying sweet things, & just as he reached into his pocket, I heard a splash - One of Brandon's lenses had fallen into the waterfall, & he dove in to grab it. So. That didn't happen.
On Valentine's Day, we went on a nice date, & at every turn, I expected it to happen. When he passed up opportunities at the restaurant, getting randomly serenaded by a saxophone player in Bricktown, & hanging out with Brandon (who just "happened" to have his camera. Turns out he really did just happen to have it), I realized it was not going to happen that night. My mom had been texting me nonstop for details, assuming the same thing, & I told her it would be another night. Laker said we should just drive around for a while, & I agreed, even though I was in a horrible mood. He stopped at a random corner & told me to get out of the car. Then he got down on one knee. I thought, "Seriously? After all this, he's going to propose on a random street corner?" But he explained that it was where I stole a traffic cone the first time we ever hung out (long story - I had never done anything like that before), & where he knew he wanted to be with me. I knocked his hat off because I kept just wanting to touch his face for some reason, & then freaked out because I knocked off his hat, thinking I'd ruined the moment somehow. He proposed, I said yes, & then I got upset because my mom had put away her phone after my last text, & I couldn't get a hold of the other 5 members of my family (I finally got through a while later, & everyone was excited!).
