Touring hotels may not sound like fun, but the Disney resorts are the biggest, prettiest hotels I have ever seen! & there is so much to do in each one - you can explore the grounds, gift shops, restaurants...
So to start our tour, we went to the Grand Floridian. We had breakfast reservations at 1900 Park Fare, which is the main restaurant at the Grand. We got a photo with 1900 Park Fare's Christmas tree, then went into the restaurant. Breakfast is a character meal, so throughout breakfast, we were greeted by Pooh, Tigger, the Mad Hatter, Alice, & Mary Poppins! It was so much fun!
Pooh came over to our table three separate times, just to say hi. Tigger kind of snuck up on us & somehow managed to make us laugh even though he couldn't talk. The Hatter was one of my favorite characters I've met so far! He noticed I was dressed like him, & teased Halli for wearing a doily. He was constantly joking, & had the best poses. Alice wished me a happy birthday, & told me to have plenty of tea & cakes - but to be sure to keep the Hatter away from the insani-tea, because he'd already had plenty! & Mary Poppins managed to say, "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" BACKWARDS in casual conversation, which is pretty amazing.
I had eggs Benedict, fruit, scrambled eggs, & 1900 Park Fare's famous strawberry soup. Then our server brought us complimentary cupcakes for my birthday!
As for the Grand Floridian itself, I have never seen a prettier hotel. They still had Christmas decorations up, so we got to see the giant, gorgeous Christmas tree, & the lifesize gingerbread house (which actually had people inside it, selling gingerbread). The floors at the Grand are even amazing! We also went into Basin White, which is a version of my favorite bath & body shop in Florida. & we bought a lot of bath bombs! Plus, every time we entered or exited the building, the staff members greeted us as "princesses" or "Mad Hatter & Alice." Too cute.
After exploring the Polynesian, we rode the monorail back to the Grand Floridian, where we had lunch at the Gasparilla Grill. Lunch consisted of flat-bread pizzas & Mickey ice cream bars (Halli's first one ever!).
After that, we went to Disney Springs, this time with Halli & me dressed as Daisy & Minnie. I had been before when it was under construction & still called Downtown Disney, but it's a whole new place now that the reconstruction is finished! It's way bigger, with so many more shops & restaurants. We had dinner at Earl of Sandwich (& got a free peppermint brownie for my birthday!), then explored the shops. Alex built his own lightsaber, & we admired all of the Lego sculptures & Disney bushes. Halli & I also found Santa Goofy & stopped for photos. Then it was back to the house for bed before our next two days at Universal!
