Laker & I realized last night that we have now had one Valentine’s Day as boyfriend/girlfriend, one as fiance/fiancee, & one as husband/wife. Kind of neat. We have celebrated Valentine’s Day (mostly in small ways) the past 3 years, but I thought it would be fun to share my top 5 Valentine’s Days (: From most recent to furthest back…
1. Valentine’s 2013
This was our first Valentine’s Day as a married couple. We had just gotten back from our trip to Springfield, MO on the 13th, & we both worked the majority of the day (Plus I had to be at work at 5 AM today), so we didn’t want to do much. We ended up cooking chicken alfredo together while listening to the Justin Timberlake Pandora station, & then we went to bed early.
This was our only (kind of) big celebration. I had a feeling Laker was going to propose (there had been an attempt at one point… Laker had set up a big proposal & long story short, something happened & it failed. So I knew it was coming). The whole night, I was just waiting for it. First, we went to a hibachi restaurant for dinner. No proposal. Then we went for a walk in Bricktown. A saxophone player randomly started serenading us in an alley. No proposal. We met up for frozen yogurt with Brandon, who “just happened” to have his camera. No proposal (He really did just happen to have his camera). Just as I had given up & gotten irritated, Laker proposed in the place we first hung out (: If you want to read the whole story, click here.
Laker & I had only been dating for about 3 months, so we were going to keep things low-key. I worked until about 10 that night, so he was going to have dinner ready at his apartment when I got there. I was expecting a quiet evening, just the two of us. However, I had made the mistake of telling Blake (Laker’s & my mutual best friend) what I had gotten Laker for Valentine’s Day - a massive Nerf gun & the first season of Eastbound & Down. So when I arrived at Laker’s apartment, dinner & a bouquet of roses were waiting for me… Along with a table of 3 of Laker’s roommates, plus Blake, who lived on the other side of the complex. haha It ended up being pretty fun… They watched him open his gifts & then let us enjoy our dinner alone. That apartment was always an adventure!
This was my senior year of high school, & it was a GREAT Valentine’s Day! We were at our Dual State wrestling tournament (just a reminder - I WAS a cheerleader. Co-captain, actually. haha & our school’s biggest sport was wrestling, so we had a specific squad just for that). Anyway, the tournament was the 13th & 14th. So the morning of the 14th, the other captain, Myka, & I exchanged gifts. I woke up to candy & a little stuffed monkey by my bed (: Then one of the wrestlers I had met at a previous tournament (he was a freshman when I was a senior, & he always talked to me & my friend Joy) brought me & Joy some chocolates he bought us. Then we ended up winning the tournament! It was fantastic (: I miss wrestling soooo much! (Myka is on my left, & Joy isn’t in this picture for some reason…)
This was my sophomore year of high school. Whitney & I were really good friends with two senior guys, Wes & Jordan. The four of us decided to “double date.” Jordan & Whitney were dates, & Wes & I were dates (Wes is on the left, Jordan is on the right). Wes embarrassed me by sending me candy & a singing valentine during class. After school, we went grocery shopping, & then went to his house. We cooked dinner for Whitney & Jordan, & then we all hung out for a few hours. It was a lot of fun!
